GUPPY-MAGIC
Live Fish, Snails and Live Fish Food ( Daphnia)
Guppy Magic refers to the enchanting world of guppy fish, known for their vibrant colours and playful behaviour. These small freshwater fish, originating from South America, have captured the hearts of aquarium enthusiasts around the globe. With their diverse colour patterns and easy-going nature, guppies are often recommended for beginners looking to start their own aquarium. They thrive in a variety of water conditions and are relatively low-maintenance, making them ideal for both novice and experienced aquarists alike. Guppies are also known for their fascinating breeding habits, as they can reproduce quickly, adding to the dynamic nature of your tank. Whether you’re drawn to their beauty or their lively antics, guppies truly bring a touch of magic to any aquatic environment.
The Importance of a Fully Cycled Aquarium Tank
A well-established aquarium is essential for the health and wellbeing of your fish and other aquatic animals. Before adding livestock, the tank must be fully cycled. Cycling establishes beneficial bacteria in the filter media, substrate and other surfaces, allowing the aquarium to process harmful waste safely. Fish produce ammonia through waste and breathing, and uneaten food can also break down into ammonia. Even at low levels, ammonia is highly toxic. In a fully cycled tank, beneficial bacteria convert ammonia into nitrite, which is also harmful, and then into the less toxic nitrate. Regular partial water changes help keep nitrate at a safe level. Adding fish to an uncycled or unstable tank can expose them to dangerous ammonia and nitrite spikes, leading to stress, illness or death. Take the time to cycle the tank properly, test the water regularly, and only add fish gradually once ammonia and nitrite consistently read 0 ppm. A stable, established tank provides a safer environment and gives your aquatic pets the best possible start.
Red Cobra Guppies
Red Cobra Guppies are a popular freshwater aquarium fish known for their vivid red colouring and distinctive cobra-like patterning across the body and tail. A selectively bred variety of Poecilia reticulata, they are active, peaceful fish that suit well-maintained community aquariums. Males are usually more brightly coloured and have larger, more elaborate tails than females, while females are generally larger-bodied. Keep Red Cobra Guppies in a heated aquarium with clean, filtered water, stable conditions and plenty of plants or hiding places. They do best in groups, ideally with more females than males to reduce stress from breeding behaviour. As livebearers, guppies can reproduce quickly, so it is important to plan ahead if keeping both sexes together. Feed them a varied diet of quality tropical fish food, supplemented with suitable frozen, live or vegetable-based foods, and avoid overfeeding to help maintain good water quality.
